Wye Valley and River Wye

Set in the heart of England and designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Wye Valley follows the River Wye from Hereford to Chepstow covering 72 miles.  A wonderful river for fishing, canoeing or just to enjoy while walking and picnicing.  Canoe rental can be arranged from a location approx 2 miles from Bowens.

Wye Valley Way Walk

A 136 mile (218km) walk following the River Wye  from Chepstow to Plynlimon via Hereford and Ross-on-Wye. Portions of the walk from Fownhope to either Ross-on-Wye or Hereford can easily be accomplished in a day.


Hereford Canoe Hire

Hereford Canoe Hire is is ideally located at the Lucksall Caravan park just two miles away. They offer a variety of trips from 2 hour paddling 'tasters' to full day trips. 


There are other canoe hire facilities in Hereford, Ross on Wye and Symonds Yat

Wye Leisure

Three Choirs Festival

The Three Choirs is an annual historic music festival held every year in July/August; it has been ongoing since the 18th century. It is held  in Hereford (at the Cathedral), Gloucester and Worcester in rotation.  www.3choirs.org

Ross-on-Wye


Ross on Wye is an ancient town with views overlooking the River Wye. The town sits on a high on a cliff and has  gardens and excellent walks beside the River.  First recorded in 1016 and has a 13th Century Church and a 17th Cetury Market House.

Hereford and Hereford Cathedral

Hereford lies approx 8 miles from Bowens and 16 miles from the Wales. It is a cathedral town with a medieval bridge over the River Wye and many medieval buildings including the Old House (1621).  The cathedral, established in the 7th century, is an important part of the town. It has manuscripts including its Mappa Mundi, a 13th Century view of the world on vellum.  There are daily Guided City Walks from May-Oct starting at the Cathedral.  Check website for details: www.herefordguidedwalks.org.uk


Ledbury

Ledbury is a market town, lying east of Hereford, and west of the Malvern Hills. It has a number of timber-framed structures, especially along Church Lane and High Street, including the Market House, built in 1617.

Canwood Art Gallery

Canwood Gallery is a not-for-profit gallery set up to exhibit thought provoking art within the inspiring Herefordshire countryside. Any profit goes to Bart's Hospital, London.
